New cctv footage bas emerged showing the moments before a police officer kicked and stamped on the head of a man lying on the ground at Manchester Airport on Tuesday.
In the video, police are seen trying to restrain a man when another man intervenes, sparking a fight. The incident led to the suspension of a constable, now under criminal investigation for assault by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) and facing a disciplinary notice for potential gross misconduct. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) reported that the officer's actions followed a violent attack on him and his colleagues in a car park at Terminal 2.
New footage, obtained by the Manchester Evening News, shows three officers attempting to detain a man before another man intervenes, leading to a physical altercation. An older woman also appears in the video, crawling over to the man who was lying mostly still after being tasered.
The incident has sparked protests outside a Greater Manchester police station, with accusations of institutional racism. The family of the man who was stamped on has appealed for calm, emphasizing they have no political agenda. Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham urged the public not to rush to judgment, stressing the complexity of the situation and the need for thorough investigations. Human rights lawyer Aamer Anwar criticized the call for considering the incident's context, arguing that there was no justification for the officer's actions.
