Birmingham Man Ejected From Court Over Alleged Peter Kay Bomb Hoax Outbursts
A 19-year-old man, Omar Majed of Birmingham, was removed from magistrates' court on Monday due to disruptive behaviour during a hearing concerning an alleged bomb hoax at a Peter Kay performance.
Majed faces a charge of communicating false information to police. He provided no plea indication and was remanded in custody. He is scheduled to appear at Birmingham Crown Court on 1 June.
The court heard that on Friday, Majed reportedly entered Birmingham's Utilita Arena without a ticket. He then allegedly indicated to a police constable and others that a bomb might have been present at the venue.
Prosecutor Ros Buttler stated that the alleged hoax caused "serious repercussions" at an event anticipating nearly 13,000 attendees. Thousands of fans were evacuated from the premises, and Peter Kay was taken off stage approximately 45 minutes into his set.
During the brief hearing, District Judge Michelle Smith repeatedly instructed Majed, of Graham Road, Saltley, to remain quiet and seated. He was eventually removed and taken to the cells after protesting that proposed bail conditions were "not acceptable."
West Midlands Police confirmed that subsequent searches of the venue found "nothing suspicious."
