Colonel Dmytro Kozyura Receives Life Sentence for Ukraine State Treason
Colonel Dmytro Kozyura, a senior figure within Ukrainian intelligence, has been sentenced to life imprisonment following his conviction for state treason. Prosecutors asserted that Kozyura systematically disclosed classified information to Russian intelligence over an extended period, outlining a ten-year span of collaboration.
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) confirmed the conviction, stating that Kozyura was apprehended in March of the previous year. He was subsequently found guilty of collecting and transmitting sensitive data pertaining to Ukraine's defence capabilities and operational strategies. The SBU characterised his actions as a deliberate betrayal of national security.
This case underscores the persistent challenge of internal infiltration faced by Ukrainian security apparatuses, particularly given the ongoing conflict. Western intelligence assessments frequently highlight Moscow's sustained efforts to cultivate assets within Ukrainian state structures to undermine defensive postures and gather critical intelligence.
