Kirkcudbright Academy Former Pupil Arkadii Petrov Killed Fighting in Ukraine

Arkadii Petrov, a former pupil of Kirkcudbright Academy in Scotland, has been confirmed dead after returning to Ukraine to participate in the conflict. His family announced that Petrov, aged 21, was killed in action. Petrov had spent a period studying in Scotland before opting to return to his home country as hostilities continued.

His family released a statement honouring his memory: ". . . our brave and beloved son, Arkadii Petrov, was tragically killed in action in Ukraine. Arkadii was a true hero, a kind and selfless soul who dedicated his life to protecting others." They added, "He will be forever 21."

Petrov's connection to Kirkcudbright was noted by those in the community, reflecting on a young man who chose to confront the violence in his homeland directly. His death underscores the personal costs of the ongoing conflict, extending to individuals with ties across Europe.
