Maserati Driver Ronald Dowling Receives Suspended Sentence for Fatal Crash
Ronald Dowling, 56, has received a 16-month suspended prison sentence following a fatal collision in which he was found to be driving dangerously. Dowling’s Maserati aquaplaned and struck another vehicle, killing the driver, Susan Shaw, aged 57.
The incident occurred in heavy rain as Dowling attempted to overtake another car on the A444 near Fenny Drayton, Leicestershire. His vehicle lost control, skidded across the carriageway, and collided with Ms Shaw’s car. Ms Shaw died at the scene.
Dowling, of Meadow Road, Atherstone, Warwickshire, was also disqualified from driving for two years and ordered to complete 200 hours of unpaid work. The judge noted that while Dowling's dangerous driving caused the fatality, his immediate remorse and lack of previous convictions were mitigating factors in the sentencing decision.
