Michael O'Brien Seeks Restoration of Philip Saunders' 'Forgotten' Grave After Wrongful Conviction

Michael O'Brien, one of three individuals wrongfully imprisoned for the 1987 murder of Cardiff newsagent Philip Saunders, has initiated a campaign to restore Saunders' neglected grave. O'Brien, alongside his co-defendants Ellis and Miller, had their convictions quashed in 1999 after serving 11 years.

O'Brien asserts that the state of Saunders' grave at Western Cemetery is 'forgotten' and reflects the lingering injustice of the initial flawed investigation and subsequent wrongful convictions. He states that the lack of proper maintenance is a 'disgrace' to the victim and his family.

The campaign aims to raise funds and awareness to ensure Saunders' final resting place receives appropriate care and recognition. O'Brien emphasised that the family of the deceased deserves to see the grave properly maintained, considering the profound impact of the crime and the subsequent legal miscarriage.
