Polish Security Services Apprehend Man Over Alleged Donald Tusk Assassination Plot
Poland's Internal Security Agency (ABW) has confirmed the detention of a Polish citizen, identified only as Roman J., on suspicion of plotting to assassinate Prime Minister Donald Tusk. The individual was reportedly communicating with foreign intelligence services, providing information that could be used in a potential attack.
The Public Prosecutor's National Department stated that Roman J. was tasked with collecting details about the security arrangements at Rzeszów-Jasionka Airport in southeastern Poland. This airport is a critical hub for international military and humanitarian aid deliveries to Ukraine, frequently used by high-ranking officials, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who held a meeting there with Mr Tusk in March.
Authorities acted on credible intelligence indicating potential threats not only against Mr Tusk but also against Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz. The ABW conducted searches and gathered evidence following the arrest. The suspect now faces charges of readiness to act on behalf of a foreign intelligence service, which carries a maximum sentence of eight years in prison. The ongoing investigation involves collaboration between Polish and Ukrainian prosecutors, highlighting the transnational dimensions of such alleged plots.
