Putin Threatens 'Every Weapon' for Kaliningrad Defence, Citing Western Provocations
President Vladimir Putin has issued a direct warning to Western nations, stating Russia stands ready to utilise its entire range of weaponry to defend Kaliningrad. This declaration, made publicly, follows what the Russian leader described as provocative statements emanating from Western capitals regarding the exclave's security.
Putin maintained that Russia's posture is purely defensive, insisting, "We are not threatening anyone." He framed the potential use of 'every weapon' as a necessary countermeasure to perceived external threats, rather than an initiation of aggression. Kaliningrad, a Russian exclave nestled between Poland and Lithuania on the Baltic Sea, remains a strategically vital territory for Moscow.
Western nations have frequently expressed concern over Russia's military build-up in Kaliningrad, particularly given its proximity to NATO member states. Moscow, in turn, routinely presents its military deployments in the region as a response to NATO expansion and what it characterises as increasing military activity near its borders. This latest statement from Putin underscores the enduring tension surrounding the exclave, highlighting Russia's resolve to protect its territorial integrity and strategic assets with all available means.
