Royal Mail Losing 400 Postal Workers Weekly, Union Cites New Delivery System Failures
Royal Mail is experiencing a significant weekly attrition of around 400 postal workers, according to the Communication Workers Union (CWU). The union states that this exodus has accelerated since the implementation of a new delivery system, which it contends is proving ineffective in numerous offices nationwide.
The CWU asserts that the new operational model has led to increased workload and dissatisfaction among staff, directly contributing to the high rate of departures. This ongoing staffing crisis jeopardises service delivery and places additional strain on remaining employees.
While Royal Mail has acknowledged some initial challenges with its new 'feet on the street' model, designed to adapt to a decline in letter volumes and an increase in parcels, it maintains that the system is delivering benefits in many areas. However, the CWU's data paints a starkly different picture, indicating widespread operational issues affecting hundreds of locations.
The union highlights that these staffing losses are not sustainable and call into question Royal Mail's long-term operational viability under the current management strategies. The continued departures pose a substantial threat to the reliability and efficiency of postal services across the UK.
