Russian Drone Strikes Train Near Ukraine-Poland Border Post-Johnson, EU Officials' Departure

A Russian drone targeted a train in Ukraine's western Lviv region, close to the border with Poland, just hours after former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson and several European Union officials concluded a visit to the vicinity. Ukrainian authorities confirmed no casualties resulted from the attack.

The incident occurred in the Yavoriv district, a mere 15 miles (25km) from the Polish frontier. The drone strike hit railway infrastructure, raising concerns about the proximity of Russian military actions to NATO territory.

This particular train was reportedly carrying humanitarian aid. While Russian forces have routinely targeted Ukrainian railway networks throughout the conflict, striking a location so close to a NATO member state's border, especially following a high-profile Western delegation's visit, is notable. Western powers continue to supply Ukraine with military and financial aid, often transported via these very routes from Poland.
