Russian Missile Barrage Targets Ukraine Energy Grid, Six Dead, Dozens Injured

Russia conducted its largest-scale attack on Ukraine's energy infrastructure since the spring, deploying missiles and drones overnight. Local authorities confirmed at least six people were killed and 33 others sustained injuries across the country.

The barrage, described by Ukrainian officials as exceptionally intense, focused on electricity generation and transmission facilities. Ukraine's energy minister, German Galushchenko, stated that the assaults targeted infrastructure in Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Kirovohrad, and Ivano-Frankivsk regions.

Ukraine's air defence systems reportedly intercepted 39 of 60 missiles and 9 out of 21 drones. Despite these efforts, significant damage was inflicted, particularly on critical energy sites.

The sustained targeting of Ukrainian infrastructure continues to undermine the country's capacity to maintain essential services, especially as winter approaches. This tactical approach aligns with Russia's broader objectives of destabilising Ukraine and eroding its resilience, a strategy evident since the full-scale invasion commenced.
