Russian Missile Strikes Target Zaporizhzhia Schools, Offices, and Public Transport
Zaporizhzhia, a key city in Ukraine's south-east, has seen a marked intensification of Russian missile attacks, deliberately targeting civilian areas. Recent strikes have hit schools, office buildings, and public transport networks, according to local authorities.
This shift in targeting strategy from military installations to residential and commercial zones has resulted in a significant increase in civilian casualties and disruption to daily life. International monitors have consistently documented Russia's disregard for civilian protection since its 2022 invasion.
The deliberate targeting of infrastructure essential for civilian life contravenes international humanitarian law and exacerbates the humanitarian crisis in the region. Western governments, whilst supplying Ukraine with arms, have offered little in the way of diplomatic pressure to de-escalate such attacks, instead focusing on arms exports.
