
Sixteen Injured in Turkish School Shooting by Former Student
Sixteen individuals have sustained injuries following a shooting incident at a vocational high school in Siverek, a district in south-eastern Turkey. The perpetrator, a former student reportedly in his late teens, opened fire indiscriminately with a shotgun before turning the weapon on himself, according to local governor Hasan Şildak.
Details of the Incident
The attack, which occurred at approximately 09:30 local time (06:30 GMT) at the Ahmet Koyuncu Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, resulted in injuries to ten students, four teachers, a cafeteria worker, and a police officer. All those injured were promptly transported to hospital, with five subsequently transferred for further specialist treatment. The school was evacuated following the incident.
Governor Şildak confirmed that the assailant had no prior criminal record and that the school was considered secure by law enforcement. An investigation has been launched to ascertain the full circumstances surrounding the attack. Witness accounts describe the attacker entering the school grounds and immediately discharging the firearm towards individuals and the school building, causing widespread panic and dispersion among students and staff. One injured student reported that the gunman entered at least two classrooms, firing upon those present.
