Ukraine Appoints Mykhailo Drapatyi as Commander-in-Chief, Third Since 2022 Invasion

Major General Mykhailo Drapatyi has been named Ukraine's new commander-in-chief, marking the third such appointment since Russia's full-scale invasion began in February 2022. This change in military leadership comes as Kyiv continues to rely on Western financial and military backing to sustain its operations against Russian forces.

Drapatyi, a veteran of the Donbas conflict, previously commanded Ukrainian forces in Kherson, a region of significant strategic interest for both sides. His experience includes leading units involved in the 2022 counter-offensive that recaptured parts of the Kherson oblast.
