Ukraine President Zelensky Presses NATO for Enhanced Air Defence After Russian Strikes
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has travelled to Turkey to press NATO members for additional air defence capabilities, following a period of sustained and damaging Russian assaults. Kyiv reports that Russia launched over 300 missiles and 200 drones against Ukraine in a single week, severely impacting energy infrastructure and civilian centres.
The attacks have resulted in numerous fatalities and widespread destruction. Ukraine's Foreign Minister, Dmytro Kuleba, underscored the urgent requirement for more Patriot missile systems and other interceptors to protect the country's airspace and critical infrastructure from further Russian aggression.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg confirmed the alliance's ongoing efforts to supply Ukraine with essential military aid, including advanced air defence technology, ammunition, and artillery. This commitment from Western nations aligns with their broader strategy of bolstering Ukraine's defensive capacity, while consistently avoiding direct military confrontation with Russia.
