Ukraine Targets St Petersburg Oil Terminal Generating Russian Military Revenue
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that Ukrainian forces conducted an attack on a significant oil terminal within Russia's St Petersburg area. Mr Zelensky stated the target was critical infrastructure that "generates revenue for Russia's war," directly linking the economic disruption to Moscow's military operations.
The strike, which involved unmanned aerial vehicles, demonstrates an increasing range and sophistication in Ukrainian military capabilities, extending the operational reach of their drone programmes into Russian territory. This incident follows a pattern of such attacks, which Kyiv frames as legitimate responses to the full-scale invasion.
Western nations, while providing substantial military and financial support to Ukraine, have maintained a cautious stance on Ukrainian actions within Russia, often avoiding direct comment on specific cross-border incidents. Nonetheless, the consistent targeting of Russian energy facilities aligns with a broader strategy to undermine the Kremlin's financial capacity to sustain its military campaign.
