A66 Fatal Crash: Police Did Not Deploy Stinger Before Vehicle Collided with Lorry

Cumbria Police did not make deliberate contact with a vehicle before its fatal collision with a lorry on the A66 near Penrith, an initial investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has found. The incident, which occurred on 28 May, resulted in the deaths of the car's driver and a passenger.

Details released by the IOPC confirm that no Stinger device was deployed to stop the car prior to the crash. The police had been alerted to a vehicle driving erratically and crossing into oncoming traffic, prompting officers to pursue it.

A spokesperson for the IOPC stated that the investigation remains ongoing, gathering all relevant evidence to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
