Argentinian President Milei Calls Brazilian Leader Lula a 'Thief' and 'Convict'
Argentinian President Javier Milei has labelled his Brazilian counterpart, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, a 'thief' and a 'convict' during a campaign event in Brazil. The remarks were delivered whilst Milei was actively supporting Flávio Bolsonaro, a right-wing candidate for the Brazilian presidency.
Milei's incendiary statements follow previous diplomatic friction between the two South American leaders. Prior to his own election, Milei had characterised Lula as a 'communist' and a 'corrupt individual', signalling a clear ideological divergence that continues to strain bilateral relations. These public broadsides underscore a deepening schism between the two nations' political leadership, potentially complicating regional stability and trade arrangements.
