British Man Dies in Paragliding Incident Near Tremp, Catalonia
A 63-year-old British man has died after a paragliding accident in the Palau de Noguera area, near Tremp, in Spain's north-eastern Catalonia region. Emergency services were alerted to the incident at approximately 13:30 local time on Wednesday.
Rescuers found the man with severe injuries and administered first aid. Despite the efforts of medical teams upon their arrival, he later passed away. The UK Foreign Office has stated it is “supporting the family of a British man who has died in Spain.”
The incident occurred near Àger, a location well-known among paragliding and hang gliding enthusiasts, situated on the fringes of the Pyrenees. Local reports suggested the man may have become entangled in power lines before impacting the ground, though official sources have not confirmed the cause of the accident.
The Catalan government confirmed that three fire brigades and two medical teams attended the scene. The Mossos d'Esquadra, Catalonia's primary police force, deployed five teams from their citizen security and investigation units to the site. Authorities are expected to inform the man's family via British consular channels.
