Charity Heart Scan Reveals Blocked Artery in Plymouth Father, Preventing Future Attack
A charity-organised heart scan has been credited with averting a potential cardiac catastrophe for a Plymouth father. Simon Morris, 58, underwent an echocardiogram through the HeartSWell charity, which subsequently identified a severely blocked artery.
Undetected Risk Identified
Mr Morris reported no symptoms typically associated with heart issues, such as chest pain or breathlessness, prior to the scan. The discovery of the blockage, which doctors described as a 'silent' heart attack, necessitated immediate intervention. He subsequently underwent surgery to insert a stent, a procedure that cardiac specialists confirmed likely prevented a more severe, and potentially fatal, heart attack.
The HeartSWell charity, which has been providing support and services to heart patients across Plymouth and the surrounding areas for over two decades, offers free scans and promotes awareness of cardiovascular disease. The organisation relies on donations to fund its vital work, highlighting the critical role of preventative screening in public health.
