Cheshire Police Conclude Webb House Search After Arresting Ten in Slavery Probe
Cheshire Police have concluded searches at Webb House, the headquarters of a religious group in Crewe, announcing the building has been "released to the residents". The operation followed allegations of serious sexual offences, forced marriage, and modern slavery, reportedly occurring in 2023 against a female member of the Ahmadi Religion of Peace and Light.
Officers raided three properties in Crewe on Wednesday, including Webb House, leading to the arrest of seven men and three women. All ten individuals, who are of various nationalities including British, Mexican, Italian, and Egyptian, have since been released on conditional bail. Their bail conditions prevent their return to Webb House. Police confirmed that while searches are complete, a presence will be maintained in the area.
Chief Superintendent Gareth Wrigley reiterated that the investigation is "not an investigation into religion," but focuses "solely on the serious allegations which have been reported to us." He urged the public to refrain from speculation. Separately, twenty-five individuals face public order offence charges stemming from the raids, with court appearances scheduled for June at Crewe Magistrates' Court.
