Countess of Chester Hospital Senior Boss Arrested Over Perverting Justice, Police Investigate
A senior healthcare executive, previously working at the Countess of Chester Hospital where nurse Lucy Letby murdered seven infants, has been arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.
Cheshire Police confirmed the individual was detained and subsequently bailed after a property search on Wednesday. This action falls under Operation Duet, a wider police inquiry encompassing corporate manslaughter and gross negligence manslaughter investigations into the hospital's senior management.
The force initiated its investigation following Letby's 2023 conviction for murdering seven babies and attempting to murder seven others in the neonatal unit between 2015 and 2016.
While specific details regarding the arrested individual's age, gender, or the location of the searched property remain undisclosed, it is understood this person is among three hospital bosses previously arrested and bailed in 2025 on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter.
Cheshire Police stated that "searches at the property have now concluded" and reiterated that both the corporate manslaughter and gross negligence manslaughter elements of the investigation are ongoing, with no fixed timescales for their conclusion.
The corporate manslaughter inquiry focuses on determining whether "any criminality has taken place concerning the response to the increased levels of fatalities," including any "grossly negligent action or inaction of individuals." This scope was expanded in March 2025 to include gross negligence manslaughter.
