Diver Dies from Shark Attack Off Michaelmas Island, Western Australia
A 35-year-old male diver died on Saturday after a suspected 4.5-metre (14.8ft) shark attacked him near Michaelmas Island, off the coast of Western Australia. The incident occurred at 11:25 local time (03:25 GMT) while the man was spearfishing with family.
Police confirmed that the diver was transported to shore by boat, where awaiting paramedics were unable to resuscitate him. A report will be prepared for the coroner.
The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) is assisting local authorities and has advised residents to report any shark sightings. This fatality follows another recent shark attack in Western Australia less than a month ago, which killed 38-year-old Steven Mattaboni at Horseshoe Reef.
