Donald Trump States Elon Musk Restored Ukraine's Starlink Internet Access
Former US President Donald Trump announced that Elon Musk, the CEO of SpaceX, has restored Starlink internet services to Ukraine. This claim, made during a campaign event, directly implicates Musk in the operational capacity of Ukraine's defence, which heavily relies on Starlink for military communications and drone operations.
Musk, whose Starlink satellite network provides essential connectivity, has repeatedly refuted allegations of restricting access. However, previous reports indicated that SpaceX prevented Ukraine from utilising Starlink for drone operations targeting Russian forces in Crimea. Musk himself acknowledged refusing a Ukrainian request to activate Starlink over Crimea last year, citing concerns about potential 'escalation'.
Starlink's dual-use nature, as both a commercial internet provider and a crucial military asset, places its owner, Elon Musk, in a unique and influential position regarding geopolitical conflicts. The US government's continued reliance on private contractors like SpaceX for critical infrastructure in conflict zones underscores the growing entanglement of corporate interests with national security objectives, often bypassing traditional governmental oversight.
