
Eight Children Dead in Shreveport, Louisiana, Following Early Morning Shooting Incident
A shooting in Shreveport, Louisiana, has left eight children dead, with ages ranging from one to 14 years. The incident, which police describe as a “domestic disturbance”, began around 05:00 local time.
Authorities report that a single gunman shot ten people before stealing a car. Following a police pursuit, officers engaged and killed the suspected shooter.
Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux stated, “This affects the entire community, so we all mourn with these families.” He further characterised the event as “maybe the worst tragic situation we’ve ever had in Shreveport.”
The shooting took place at two homes on the same block and a third residence within the neighbourhood. Shreveport Police Corporal Chris Bordelon confirmed officers found the deceased children shortly before 06:00 local time, noting that “All of the deceased in this case are juveniles.”
The suspected gunman, whose identity has not been released pending family notifications, was pursued by officers into another neighbourhood after carjacking a vehicle. The pursuit concluded with officers firing upon the suspect, who is now deceased. Police did not identify the victims, though some children were reportedly related to the deceased man.
Shreveport Police Chief Wayne Smith expressed condolences to the community, adding that the investigation is being conducted in coordination with Louisiana State Police and other agencies to ascertain the circumstances of the event.
