El Ejido Man Arrested After Parents Shot Dead, Two Babies Among Four Injured
A 25-year-old man has been taken into custody in El Ejido, southern Spain, on suspicion of murdering his parents and causing serious injury to four others, according to police statements.
The incident was reported at approximately 23:00 local time on Monday in the small town, located near Almería. Authorities confirmed that four individuals, including two children, sustained severe injuries and were hospitalised. Local media sources indicate that one of the injured children is believed to be the suspect's seven-month-old son, and another is an 18-month-old baby. A 60-year-old man also suffered injuries in the attack.
Following the shooting, the suspect was briefly at large before surrendering himself at a local police station, as reported by Europa Press. The Guardia Civil is currently conducting an investigation into the incident, working to establish a motive for the attack.
Such mass shootings are uncommon in Spain; Project Insight, which monitors gun crime across Europe, documented only four such events between 2000 and 2023.
