Farringdon Station Evacuated, Elizabeth Line Suspended After Gas Leak Reports
Farringdon station in central London was evacuated and subsequently closed today after a suspected gas leak was reported. British Transport Police (BTP) were called to the scene at 09:42 BST, with ambulance services and the fire brigade also in attendance. Authorities confirmed that a small number of passengers had reported feeling unwell.
The incident has caused significant disruption to rail services. National Rail advised passengers that Farringdon station would remain closed until at least 13:00. Thameslink urged customers to use alternative stations, specifically City Thameslink (Holborn exit) or London St. Pancras International.
Furthermore, the entire central London section of the Elizabeth line, which operates through Farringdon, has been suspended. Passengers on the Elizabeth line are being directed to use London buses to complete their journeys to or from Farringdon, at no additional cost, as emergency services continue their enquiries at the site.
