
Fire Crews Respond to Warehouse Fire in Derby, Smoke Spreads Across County
Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service deployed multiple crews to a substantial warehouse fire in Derby during the early hours of Thursday morning. The incident, centred at a commercial premises on Shaftesbury Street South, resulted in a large plume of smoke visible across the city and extending into neighbouring counties.
Inter-County Response and Public Safety Warnings
Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed receiving calls from concerned residents within their jurisdiction regarding the smoke. Both services issued public safety warnings, advising local residents to keep windows and doors closed as a precautionary measure against potential smoke inhalation.
Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service reported that eight pumps were initially dispatched to the scene shortly after 01:00 BST. As of 08:00 BST, four appliances remained on site, actively engaged in extinguishing the remnants of the fire and managing the ongoing smoke. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
