Forensics Student Benjamin Day Admits Maria Saceanu Murder in Airbnb 'Kill Room'
Benjamin Day, a 20-year-old forensics student, has admitted to the murder of Maria Saceanu, 23, in a meticulously prepared Airbnb in Northumberland. The prosecution detailed how Day lured Ms Saceanu to the property near Haltwhistle, where he had set up a 'kill room' for the crime.
Premeditated Act and 'Dexter' Parallels
During the proceedings at Newcastle Crown Court, it was revealed that Day had acquired an array of items, including plastic sheeting, duct tape, and restraints, specifically for the purpose of the killing. Prosecutor Kevin Wardlaw KC stated that Day's actions bore a chilling resemblance to the methods employed by the fictional serial killer Dexter Morgan, known for his methodical approach to murder in specially prepared locations.
Ms Saceanu's body was discovered at the Airbnb property on 10 January. Day was subsequently arrested and charged. His guilty plea to murder was entered at his appearance, leading to the case being adjourned for sentencing. The judge indicated that further psychiatric reports would be required before a life sentence could be formally passed, with a sentencing date yet to be scheduled.
