Former Police Officer Cameron Ross Receives Ten-Year Sentence for Rape, Abuse Offences
A former police officer, Cameron Ross, has been handed a ten-year prison sentence following his conviction for the rape of two women and the abuse of a third. The offences spanned a decade, with attacks occurring in Stornoway between 2012 and 2014, and further abuse against another woman in Inverness from 2019 to 2022.
Ross, previously a constable with Police Scotland, was found guilty of five charges earlier this month at the High Court in Glasgow. The court heard how Ross's actions constituted a gross breach of trust, leveraging his position and perceived authority to perpetrate these crimes.
The sentencing reflects the severe nature of the offences and the lasting impact on the victims. The case underscores persistent concerns regarding accountability within law enforcement and the mechanisms in place to address misconduct and criminal behaviour by officers.
