Former Student Almunthir Daqamah Charged After Crossbow Attack at University of Surrey
A former student, Almunthir Daqamah, 21, has been charged with attempted murder after a staff member was shot with a crossbow on the University of Surrey campus. Mr. Daqamah also faces charges of possession of an offensive weapon, two counts of possession of a bladed article, and possession of Class B drugs.
Surrey Police confirmed that a campus safety officer, aged in his 50s, was struck with the weapon at Manor Park Student Village in Guildford on Thursday. The victim is currently in a stable condition in hospital.
Mr. Daqamah has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear at Guildford Magistrates' Court. Chief Superintendent Jon Groenen stated, "There is nothing to suggest this incident is terror-related and we are not looking for anyone else in connection with it."
Chief Superintendent Groenen added that officers are working to establish the full circumstances and urged the public to avoid online speculation, referencing the concerns within the university community and among local residents in Guildford.
