Golders Green Knife Attack: Witness Ashkan Asadian Saves Moshe Shine, Attacker Charged
Ashkan Asadian, 61, has recounted his actions during a knife attack in Golders Green, stating he intervened to save the life of 76-year-old Moshe Shine. The incident, which occurred at a bus stop on Wednesday morning, saw Asadian rush to disarm the attacker after witnessing Shine being stabbed in the neck.
CCTV footage captured Shine adjusting his kippah before being assaulted on the north London street. Asadian described how he engaged the attacker, attempting to retrieve the knife, resulting in both men falling onto the main road. Shine managed to escape, bleeding from his neck, while Asadian continued to distract the assailant.
The attacker subsequently fled into a greengrocer’s. Asadian pursued him, warning staff, and then used a shopping trolley to barricade the individual inside the shop. This action allowed sufficient time for police to arrive. Asadian, who arrived in the UK from Iran in 1999 and holds British citizenship, stated that geopolitical or religious considerations were irrelevant during his intervention, emphasising, “Jewish or non Jewish, just [they are] human.”
Shine, who suffered serious injuries, has since been discharged from hospital. Essa Suleiman, 45, has been charged with the attempted murder of Moshe Shine and 34-year-old Shloime Rand in Golders Green. Suleiman also faces charges for the attempted murder of Ishmail Hussein in Southwark, an individual he reportedly has known for two decades. His next court appearance is scheduled for 15 May at the Old Bailey.
