Hackney Man Beaten, Forced to Transfer Hundreds of Thousands in Cryptocurrency Robbery
A man in Hackney was subjected to a brutal home invasion where attackers threatened his pregnant wife and used hammers to coerce him into transferring hundreds of thousands of pounds in cryptocurrency. The Metropolitan Police have initiated an investigation into the incident, which occurred at approximately 02:00 BST on 23 May.
Violent Extortion and Threats
The victim was reportedly tied up and repeatedly struck with hammers until he complied with the demands to transfer digital assets. Police stated the assailants made explicit threats against his unborn child, demanding access to his cryptocurrency accounts. The gang eventually fled the scene with the transferred funds.
Detective Sergeant Daniel Furniss described the attack as “horrific” and highlighted the distress inflicted upon the family. While physically harmed, the victim did not require hospital treatment. His pregnant wife, though unharmed, experienced profound distress.
Authorities are urging anyone with information, particularly regarding suspicious vehicles or individuals in the area during the early hours of 23 May, to come forward. The Met Police emphasised their commitment to bringing those responsible for such a heinous crime to justice.
