Households Must Register by Friday for £150 Warm Home Discount Scheme
Thousands of eligible households risk forfeiting the £150 Warm Home Discount if they do not ensure their name is listed on their electricity bill by the rapidly approaching 21 July deadline. This government initiative aims to provide financial relief for those struggling with energy costs, applying a one-off discount directly to electricity bills between October 2023 and March 2024.
Eligibility and Application
The scheme operates under two primary categories: the 'core group 1' and the 'core group 2'. Core group 1 encompasses those receiving the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit. Core group 2 includes individuals on a low income who also receive certain means-tested benefits, such as Universal Credit, Housing Benefit, and Income Support, and have high energy costs. The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) identifies these eligible recipients and dispatches letters between November 2023 and January 2024.
However, a critical step for many is ensuring their name is on their energy bill. Without this, even those identified by the DWP will not receive the rebate. If your name is absent from the bill, contact your energy supplier before Friday to update your account details. The scheme's extension to cover more low-income households for the 2022/23 winter period saw 2.8 million households benefit, increasing from 2.6 million the previous year, with a total spend of £420 million by suppliers.
