Inquest Hears 999 Call From Two Men on Yr Wyddfa Was Not Escalated
A 999 call made by two men who subsequently died on Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) was not escalated appropriately by call handlers, an inquest has been informed. Eddie Hill, 32, and Jayden Long, 24, both from County Durham, were attempting to descend the mountain's Crib Goch ridge when they suffered a fatal fall.
During the inquest, the court heard that a call believed to be from Mr Hill was placed to Cumbria Police before being transferred to North Wales Police. Both forces have stated that the call was not correctly escalated. A police officer who later received a report from the men's families initiated a search when the call was brought to his attention.
The Snowdonia mountain rescue team located the men's bodies approximately 20 metres below the ridge the following day. Emergency services arrived at the scene by helicopter.
