Jonathan Andic Arrested Over Father Isak Andic's Fatal Montserrat Mountain Fall
Jonathan Andic, 43, was detained by Catalan police on Tuesday as part of a renewed investigation into the death of his father, Mango founder Isak Andic. Isak Andic, 71, died in December 2024 after falling from a ravine in the Montserrat mountains near Barcelona while walking with his son. The incident was initially treated as an accident before the case was reopened.
Reports have conflicted on whether Jonathan and Isak were alone during the incident. Jonathan Andic has consistently denied responsibility for his father's death. A family spokesperson informed Reuters that Jonathan was undergoing questioning, expressing the family's confidence in his innocence.
Catalonian investigators closed the case in early 2025, finding no evidence of criminal wrongdoing. However, it was reopened later that year, with authorities citing inconsistencies in Jonathan's testimony, according to La Vanguardia. Jonathan was taken from his home shortly after 11:00 local time (09:00 GMT) for further questioning and was expected to appear before a judge later on Tuesday.
Isak Andic, born in Turkey, established Mango with his brother Nahman in Barcelona in 1984. The fashion chain now operates nearly 3,000 outlets across 120 countries. At the time of his death, Forbes estimated his net worth at $4.5bn.
