Jordan Willetts Avoids Prison Sentence for Hit-and-Run on Electric Motorbike
A Coventry man, Jordan Willetts, has been handed a suspended prison sentence following a hit-and-run incident where he knocked down a pedestrian with an electric motorbike. The victim sustained significant injuries, including a fractured collarbone and severe grazing, requiring extensive medical treatment.
Willetts, aged 26, of Longfield Road, Coventry, fled the scene after the collision, which occurred on Radford Road. He subsequently surrendered to police two days later. During sentencing, Coventry Crown Court heard that Willetts was already disqualified from driving at the time of the incident.
The court imposed a 12-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, on Willetts. Additionally, he was ordered to undertake 100 hours of unpaid work and given a 10-day rehabilitation activity requirement. Willetts received an extension to his driving disqualification, barring him from holding a licence for a further two years, and must pay a victim surcharge.
Addressing Willetts, Judge Stephen Thomas noted the 'brutal' nature of the impact and the severity of the victim's injuries. Despite the gravity of the offence, the judge concluded that the public interest would be better served by a suspended sentence, allowing Willetts to remain in the community under supervision rather than immediately incarcerating him.
