Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham Doubles Funding for Rough Sleeper Rehousing Initiative
Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham has announced a significant increase in funding for his flagship initiative, 'A Bed Every Night', designed to move rough sleepers into secure accommodation by Christmas. The initial £100,000 commitment will now be doubled to £200,000, underscoring the Mayor's sustained focus on the issue.
Since its launch two months ago, the scheme has provided temporary shelter for over 250 individuals across the region. Burnham had made addressing rough sleeping a central pledge upon entering Downing Street in July, and this increased investment aims to accelerate progress towards that goal.
The additional funds will support the provision of accommodation and associated services, working with local authorities and charities to ensure that vulnerable individuals have access to safe, warm places to stay as winter approaches. The programme represents a direct effort to tackle the visible impact of social deprivation within Greater Manchester.
