Mango Tycoon Isak Andic Death: Son Jonathan Arrested in Montserrat Cliff Fall Probe
Jonathan Andic, the eldest son of late Mango fashion empire founder Isak Andic, has been arrested and subsequently released on a €1 million bail in connection with his father's death. The arrest follows a judge's assessment that 'enough evidence' suggests the death was 'non-accidental, with the active and premeditated participation' of Jonathan Andic.
Isak Andic, 71, died on 14 December 2024 after falling approximately 150 metres from a cliff in Montserrat Natural Park, north of Barcelona. Jonathan Andic, 45, who maintains his innocence, reported the incident, claiming his father fell after he heard rocks sliding while walking ahead.
Investigators reopened the case after initial findings treating the death as an accident. Allegations supporting the homicide investigation include the unlikelihood of a slip at the reported fall site, inconsistencies between the body's position and injuries with an accidental fall, and contradictions in Jonathan Andic's accounts of his own location and his father's activities immediately prior to the fall. Furthermore, three visits by Jonathan Andic to the fall site in the days leading up to the death were deemed suspicious, indicating 'a planning and study of the site'.
A potential motive has been identified in the dynamic between Isak and Jonathan regarding the Mango business. Isak Andic's plans for a charitable foundation reportedly created friction, with text messages highlighting these difficulties. The investigating magistrate suggests Jonathan Andic engaged in 'emotional manipulation' to achieve 'economic objectives' and had 'verbalised feelings of hatred, resentment, ideas related to death and blame' towards his father. Jonathan Andic denies these claims, asserting a positive relationship with his father.
The Andic family has issued a statement in support of Jonathan, with his lawyer, Cristóbal Martell, stating, 'The homicide theory does not hold up. But, above all, it is painful. It stigmatises an innocent man.'
