New Forest Wildfire Fully Contained After Extensive Fire Service Operations
A wildfire in the New Forest, which prompted a major emergency services response, has been declared fully contained. Fire crews confirmed the perimeter of the blaze, located on Beaulieu Heath, is now entirely surrounded, preventing further spread.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service (HIWFRS) deployed a substantial number of appliances to tackle the fire, which ignited yesterday afternoon. Efforts included the use of multiple Land Rovers and unimogs, specialised off-road vehicles critical for navigating the challenging terrain of the heathland.
Incident Commander Per Hansen stated that crews would remain on site throughout the night and into the following day. Their objective is to damp down and cool residual hotspots to ensure complete extinguishment and prevent any reignition.
The HIWFRS highlighted the high fire risk across the region due to prolonged dry conditions. They issued a stern warning to the public, urging extreme caution and reiterating the prohibition of bonfires and disposable barbecues within the New Forest National Park.
The incident underscores the persistent vulnerability of natural habitats to fire, particularly during periods of low rainfall, and the extensive resources required to mitigate such events.
