New York Judge Dismisses Donald Trump's Lawsuit Against Wall Street Journal Over Epstein Letter
New York Supreme Court Justice Arthur Engoron has dismissed a defamation lawsuit brought by Donald Trump against Dow Jones, the publisher of the Wall Street Journal. The dispute centred on a letter purportedly written and signed by Trump to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, which the newspaper published.
The letter was presented as part of a 'birthday book' for Epstein, a collection of correspondence from various prominent figures. Trump's legal team contended the letter was a forgery and accused the Wall Street Journal of publishing it with actual malice, thereby damaging his reputation.
Justice Engoron, however, found that Trump's complaint failed to establish sufficient grounds for a defamation claim. He stated that the lawsuit did not adequately demonstrate that Dow Jones acted with the requisite malice or that the publication constituted defamation. This ruling effectively ends Trump's attempt to secure damages from the media organisation over the controversial correspondence.
