
Oliver Tree and Five Others Killed as Two Helicopters Collide Over Rio de Janeiro
US musician and internet personality Oliver Tree, 32, has died alongside five others following a mid-air helicopter collision over Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The incident occurred on Sunday, with one of the aircraft subsequently plummeting into a car dealership's car park, setting approximately 20 vehicles ablaze.
Footage circulated by Brazilian media captured one helicopter falling from the sky, followed by thick smoke and flames at the crash site. Authorities have confirmed an investigation into the collision's cause is now underway.
The Military Fire Department of the State of Rio de Janeiro reported receiving calls regarding the crash at around 09:00 local time (12:00 GMT).
Argentine content creator Gaspar Prim Diaz, known as Gaspi, was also among those believed to be in one of the helicopters. The passenger manifest for that aircraft listed Lucas Brito Chaves, Lucas Vignale, and pilot Alexandre Souza. The second helicopter's crew manifest only named pilot Charles Marsillac.
Tree, born Oliver Tree Nickell in Santa Cruz, California in 1993, gained prominence in 2016 through social media. Recognisable for his distinctive bowl haircut, he was known for tracks such as 'Life Goes On', 'Miss You', and 'Alien Boy'. He had recently commenced a world tour, performing in São Paulo, Brazil, on 6 June, with future dates scheduled in Lisbon, Glasgow, Manchester, and London.
