Overcrowded Passenger Bus Plunges into Dana Sar Ravine, Killing 32 in Pakistan
A passenger bus carrying more than 40 individuals veered off a mountain road and plunged into a ravine in the Dana Sar area of Pakistan's Balochistan province, resulting in the deaths of at least 32 people. The incident occurred as the vehicle, which departed from Quetta and was en route to Peshawar, navigated a treacherous section of the regional highway.
Local authorities, including senior administrative officer Habibullah Musakhail, confirmed the casualty figures, noting that women and children are among the deceased. The rescue operation, involving local residents and emergency services, managed to extract eleven injured individuals from the wreckage. These survivors have been transported to Zhob Civil Hospital for urgent medical attention.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the bus was significantly overcrowded, carrying an excess of passengers and luggage on its roof. Authorities are examining brake failure as a potential contributing factor to the catastrophe. Road accidents are a frequent occurrence in Pakistan, often attributed to poorly maintained vehicles, inadequate road infrastructure, and disregard for safety regulations.
