Reform UK Suspends Kirklees Councillor Dave Rowan for 2019 John Bercow Social Media Posts
Reform UK has announced the suspension of Kirklees Councillor Dave Rowan, representing the Dewsbury East ward, after deeply concerning social media posts from 2019 resurfaced. The posts, originally published on X, then known as Twitter, reportedly contained remarks interpreted as threats against John Bercow, who was at the time the Speaker of the House of Commons.
A spokesperson for Reform UK confirmed Councillor Rowan's suspension. The party stated that an immediate internal investigation has been launched to thoroughly examine the context and content of the historical posts. While the specific wording of the posts has not been publicly detailed by Reform UK, their nature was deemed serious enough to warrant immediate disciplinary action.
Councillor Rowan was elected to Kirklees Council in May of this year, securing a victory in Dewsbury East. The suspension comes at a sensitive time for the party, highlighting the scrutiny applied to the past online activities of elected officials.
