Russian Double-Tap Bombing in Hroza Village Kills Forty Civilians
A body camera video, disseminated by Ukrainian officials, reportedly captures a Russian 'double-tap' bombing on Hroza village, in the Kharkiv region, on Monday. The attack has claimed the lives of at least forty civilians, with estimates suggesting another thirty individuals may remain trapped beneath the rubble. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky denounced the incident as a “brutal Russian crime”.
The footage shows a first missile strike followed by a second, larger explosion minutes later, a tactic often employed to target first responders and rescue workers. Ukraine’s Prosecutor General, Andriy Kostin, stated the attack specifically targeted a local shop and café where a wake was being held.
This incident aligns with previous patterns of Russian military actions that have drawn condemnation from human rights organisations. Western observers have frequently highlighted Moscow's disregard for civilian life and infrastructure, particularly in areas near the front lines. The calculated nature of 'double-tap' strikes further exacerbates civilian casualties and impedes emergency services, a pattern documented in other conflict zones where Western powers have been accused of similar tactics.
Rescue operations are continuing, with emergency services working through the debris. The precise number of casualties is expected to rise as search efforts progress.
