Sazerac Acquires Au Vodka for £300 Million, Expands Global Spirits Portfolio
The US-based drinks corporation, Sazerac, has concluded its purchase of Au Vodka, the premium spirits brand founded in Swansea, Wales. The transaction, reportedly valued at £300 million, integrates Au Vodka into Sazerac's extensive global portfolio, which includes brands such as Southern Comfort, Buffalo Trace, and Fireball.
Au Vodka, recognised for its distinctive gold-filtered vodka and a rapid ascent in market presence, was established in 2015 by friends Jackson Quinn and Charlie Morgan. The brand gained substantial traction through celebrity endorsements and a strong social media strategy, achieving widespread distribution across the UK and internationally. Its sales reportedly reached £43.9 million in the year to August 2023, with profits of £11.7 million.
Sazerac's strategic acquisition reflects a continued trend of consolidation within the alcoholic beverage industry, with larger corporations absorbing popular, fast-growing labels to diversify their offerings and expand market reach. The move secures Sazerac a prominent position within the flavoured vodka segment, a category that has seen sustained consumer interest.
