A soldier from the King's Troop, Royal Horse Artillery, died on Friday after falling from a horse at the Royal Windsor Horse Show. Thames Valley Police reported the incident occurred at approximately 19:00 BST, shortly after the service person exited the arena.
Despite immediate medical attention, the individual sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have classified the death as "unexplained but non-suspicious", with Chief Superintendent Michael Loebenberg confirming no suspicious circumstances were identified.
Buckingham Palace stated the King was "shocked and saddened" by the news, indicating he would contact the family to convey his personal condolences. While the King and other Royal Family members were present at the event, they were reportedly unaware of the incident's severity until later.
An Army spokesperson confirmed the death of the King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery member, expressing deep regret and stating the family had been notified, with thoughts extended to them during this difficult period.
Thames Valley Police are collaborating with the Ministry of Defence, the Defence Accident Investigation Branch, and Royal Windsor Horse Show organisers HPower to ascertain the full circumstances. The four-day show is proceeding as scheduled, though the King's Troop, Royal Horse Artillery display has been cancelled.
