South East Water Chief Executive David Hinton Resigns After Supply Failures Affect 30,000 Properties
David Hinton, chief executive of South East Water, has resigned from his position. The company announced his departure, stating he would remain to facilitate a “transition over the summer period.”
Hinton cited his position becoming an “increasing distraction” from the company’s core objective of delivering a resilient water supply. His resignation follows a period of intense scrutiny and calls from multiple Members of Parliament for him to step down.
The company faced significant backlash after approximately 24,000 properties in Kent and Sussex experienced water loss or low pressure in November and December. Weeks later, up to 30,000 more customers were affected by further supply disruptions.
Hinton’s exit comes a week after Chris Train, South East Water’s chair, resigned in the wake of a critical select committee report detailing the company’s failings. Interim chair Lisa Clement acknowledged Hinton’s “many years of loyal dedication and service.”
