Stourbridge Couple Lose Home, Photos in August Wildfire Near Lye Waste

A Stourbridge couple lost their home and all possessions, including irreplaceable family photographs, during a wildfire that swept through the area in August. Sandy and Uttam Shiralkar’s property, situated near Lye Waste, was entirely destroyed by the blaze, which ignited in extremely dry conditions.

The couple described the devastating impact, particularly the loss of photos documenting their son’s life. “We cannot show our grandson photos of his dad growing up because they’ve all gone,” Mrs Shiralkar stated. The fire left their house a ruin, with only the shell remaining. All personal belongings, including furniture, clothing, and sentimental items, were consumed.

Investigations into the cause of the fire were conducted by West Midlands Fire Service. The incident highlights the severe consequences of wildfires in suburban areas, particularly during periods of drought, and the long-term emotional toll on those who lose their homes and personal histories.
