Surrey County Council Ordered to Disclose 24,000 Pages of Sara Sharif Case Files
A coroner has compelled Surrey County Council to disclose more than 24,000 pages of documentation linked to the case of Sara Sharif, the ten-year-old whose body was found at her Woking residence in August 2023. The directive was issued during a pre-inquest review, a procedural step in establishing the circumstances surrounding Sara's death.
The extensive cache of documents is understood to include records from various council departments, primarily those related to children's services and welfare. The sheer volume of material underscores the complexity of the case and the multiple agencies potentially involved in Sara's life prior to her death.
Three individuals, including Sara's father, Urfan Sharif, her stepmother, Beinash Batool, and her uncle, Imran Sharif, have been charged with her murder. These individuals were extradited from Pakistan in April and subsequently appeared in court, where they denied the charges. Their trial is currently scheduled for October.
The inquest's ongoing proceedings are designed to ascertain the medical cause and circumstances of Sara's death, independent of the criminal prosecution. The coroner's order for full disclosure from the council highlights the scrutiny public bodies face in cases involving child fatalities.
